EARLY 19TH-CENTURY FRENCH SCHOOL.
Portrait of Prince Ferdinand-Philippe, Duke of Orléans (1810
1842), flanked by his wife and their two sons, the Count of
Paris and the Duke of Chartes.
Large tapestry mounted on a frame, signed ‘L.
Cochard’ in the lower right-hand corner, preserved under glass in its original
carved and gilded wooden frame surmounted by the monograms of the Duke
d’Orléans (1810–1842) and his wife, Helene, née Princess
of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (1814–1858), beneath a royal crown.
Signs of age, minor imperfections, but in good original condition.
Dimensions: H: 92 cm - W: 71 cm.
Frame: H: 112 cm - W: 86.5 cm.
History: This work is inspired by a painting by François Grenier
de Saint-Martin (1793–1867) and reproduced as an engraving under the title: ‘Derniers jours
de Bonheur’.
