CAPRAIRE SERVICE FOR THE TABLE
OF EMPEROR NAPOLEON III.
Imperial Manufactory, Sèvres, 1857.
Hard-paste porcelain decoction pot decorated with small flowers, surmounted
by a gold capraire frieze on a blue Sèvres background.
Red mark: N beneath the imperial crown, 1857.
Slight signs of age, but in good overall condition.
H.: 24 cm - W.: 21 cm.
Provenance: The ‘(beautiful) blue ground with gold capraire frieze’ service was used by Louis-Philippe
(and Napoleon III) at the Tuileries Palace, but had also previously been used by
Louis XVIII and Charles X at Saint-Cloud, Compiègne, Fontainebleau and Rambouillet.
