Description
LIBRARY OF THE ARCHBISHOP OF BORDEAUX, FRANÇOIS D’ESCOUBLEAU DE SOURDIS (1574–1628). The Life and Works of Saint John Chrysostom, in Latin and Greek, dedicated to the Rev. His Excellency Sourdisio, Bishop of Bordeaux, Primate of Aquitaine, published by Simon Millangius, Royal Printer, 1601, by Royal Privilege, in-4° (175x115 mm), contemporary calfskin binding, embossed with the gilded coat of arms of the Archbishop of Bordeaux (1599–1628), Cardinal, founder of the College of the Irish in Bordeaux, in the centre of each cover, within a border of a broad lace pattern of flowers and foliage adorned at each corner with a flower; plain spine decorated with the same motif as on the covers; gilt edges; endpaper in white paper. Restoration, wear to the corners, missing fastening cords, but in good overall condition. Reference: a copy is held at the BNF [References: CG, LV, 992. - CG, LXXVII, 703].
