LOUIS XVI’S LIBRARY
OF THE KING OF FRANCE (1754–1793).
Mercure de France, dedicated to the King by a Society of Men of
Letters, followed by the Journal de Bruxelles, published in Paris by
Panckoucke, Hôtel de Thou, Rue des Poitevins, 1781, in-12°
(170x105 mm), bound with the King’s coat of arms in gold at the centre of
each cover, framed by a triple border and adorned at each corner with a
gilded fleur-de-lis, smooth spine decorated with fleurs-de-lis, title labels
in calfskin, title in gold lettering, gilt edges, flyleaf
in sky-blue moiré silk framed by a
gilded inner lace (roulette). Bears the bookplate of L. Froissart.
Corners slightly dented, signs of age, but in good
overall condition.
