Autograph signed letter addressed to the painter André Albert
(1869–1954). No place, Sunday 10 September 1916 [?]. 1 p. in
4. Printed letterhead of the Grand Hôtel de la Poste in Beaune.
Black ink.
Renoir, now elderly, is travelling to the Gard to visit his young and dear
friend Albert André: ‘Dear friend. Would you mind asking at the Post Office
that they hand over the letters for Mr Renoir to you. We shall be in
Villefranche this evening, in Valence tomorrow, and probably in Laudun
[at Albert André’s] on Tuesday evening. I am not stopping in Lyon […]”.
Enclosed: [RENOIR, Auguste]. Extract from the
civil registers of Limoges Town Hall containing the declaration
of birth of Auguste Renoir made by his father, Léonard
Renoir, a ‘tailor’, on 25 February 1841 ‘at three o’clock in the afternoon’.
