Description
RENOIR, Auguste (1841–1919).
Autograph signed letter addressed to the painter Albert André
(1869–1954). No place, 18 September 1918. 1½ pp. in-8. Blue ink
on a double sheet.
Renoir sketches a lampshade and sends his signature to his
friend Albert André: ‘Dear friend. I was in the process of packing my
bags to go to Paris for a fortnight and, having booked my tickets, I
changed my mind. I’ve been so bored this summer that I can
still see it through to the end. I’ll take care of your matter and
send it to you in Laudun—a little lampshade and a signature, isn’t it?
But I can’t guarantee success, I’m so knackered. Yours,
Renoir”.
The lampshade and the signature of the illustrious master were
intended to illustrate André’s book entitled “Renoir”, which he
had published in 1928 (Paris, G. Crès & Cie).
