Voluntary lot
Description
RENOIR, Auguste (1841–1919).
Large autograph signature. No place, no date [September 1918, in
response to the previous letter]. 1/2 p. in-4. Black paint.
Corner of paper missing, without affecting the signature.
Auguste Renoir sent his signature to his friend, the painter
André Albert, which he painted in black gouache across the
entire width of a sheet.
At the time, André Albert was writing a book devoted to Renoir, which he
had published in 1928 (Paris, G. Crès & Cie). This signature,
requested from Renoir by Albert, was sent by the painter
accompanied by a second one (next lot) as a proposal
to appear on the front cover and on the
title page. It was not selected.
A fine document, suitable for framing.
