CHEVRIER, Stanislas (1845–1895).
A set of seven brown-ink drawings, comprising a series
of caricatures depicting the training of a young officer in the
mounted troops regiment. Also included is a set of six small
drawings and watercolours depicting an ‘Infantry Soldier’,
signed with the artist’s initials, dated: February (18)87, a “Group
of Drummers” and caricatures signed with the artist’s initials,
dated: October (18)87, and a military album entitled “Mon
Sursis”, published in Paris by H. Simonis, illustrated by Albert
Guillaume, a photographic portrait signed by Edourd-Denis
Baldus (1813–1889), depicting his parents-in-law Mr and
Mrs de Beauchesne, and a watercolour depicting a portrait
of his wife, Anne-Marie du Bois de Beauchesne. Folds,
as is. Various sizes.
Provenance: former collection of Germaine Raffaëlli (1877–1924), daughter of the
French painter Jean-François Raffaëlli (1850–1924), who married Félix
Chevrier du Bois de Beauchesne (b. 1869–?), son of Stanislas Chevrier (1845–1895) and
Anne-Marie du Bois de Beauchesne (1838–1925), and subsequently by descent.
