Description
FRICERO Joseph (1807–1870). Set of 28 large watercolours mounted on paper depicting views of Piedmont and Switzerland, preserved in a large sketchbook, Italian format (330x455 mm), half-bound in brown calfskin, smooth spine, brown percaline cover, stamped in the centre with the inscription in gold letters ‘Promenade 1833- J. F.’, surrounded by a frieze of gold flowers embossed with a small tool. Each plate is identified by a handwritten inscription: ‘View of the bridge at St Maurice (canton of Valais)’, ‘View of Wufland Castle’, ‘St Bernard Hospice’, ‘View taken from the Simplon Road’, ‘View of Lake Maggiore, taken from Fariolo (Piedmont)’, ‘View of the Domo d’Ossola Valley (Piedmont)’, “View of Monte Rosa taken from Pechetto Sutto”, “Mr Vera’s chalet at Pechetto Sutto”, “Mr Gentinetta’s estate, on the Way of the Cross near Domo d’Ossola (Piedmont)”, etc. Binding worn, foxing. Provenance: former collection of Victor de Cessole (1859–1941).
