BERGÈRE.
Attributed to Louis, Jean-Pierre, Paris, Directoire period.
Carved from walnut, with a slightly arched rectangular backrest resting on four legs, the two front legs carved in the form of double balusters and the rear legs carved in the sabre style. Upholstered on the back in green leather and beige velvet.
Attributed to Jean-Pierre Louis, who was admitted as a master craftsman on 5 September 1787.
Identification mark: ‘T’, probably for the Tuileries Palace, in black ink.
Inventory numbers: 2161, 28225 and a third unidentified number, stencilled in black ink.
Signs of age; a glide is missing from under the front right leg.
