Private letter concerning an important meeting.
‘I waited upon you this morning to request that you might attend at the India [?] on Friday [?] to oppose the motion, and that you might persuade those over whom you may have influence to attend [?]. I hope that you will do me this favour.’
Arthur Wellesley, having returned from India in 1805, was elected to the House of Commons in 1806 as a Tory. His political career came to an abrupt end when he enlisted on the continent to fight in the Napoleonic Wars.
A small paper frame glued to the reverse of the letter.
