Description
SECOND (Jean) Paris, Michaud frères, 1812. A free translation in verse of the Odes, the Kisses, the First Book of Elegies and the three solemn elegies. In-8 (19.8 x 12 cm), red long-grain morocco, the covers framed by a frieze of gilded motifs and a gilded coat of arms in the centre, plain spine decorated with gilded motifs, gilt edges (contemporary binding in the Bozerian style).   Copper-engraved frontispiece. A precious copy from Napoleon’s library, bearing his imperial coat of arms stamped on the covers.   Corners worn, joints slightly rubbed, minor restoration to the top cap. A few foxing spots; pages 81 to 96 bound between pp. 128 and 129. A tear on one page.   Provenance Librairie Historique Fabrice Teissèdre, Paris. Bibliography OHR, pl. 2652, variant of plate no. 11.
