A collection of around 450 military and ethnographic sketches
Depicting mainly scenes from North Africa, the Algerian War and the Crimean War

Some drawings are monogrammed, signed, dated, identified, localised and numbered (some captions in Cyrillic)
Mounted on 61 sheets bound in an oblong album by Maison Duriez, 55, rue Monsieur le Prince
The inside back cover features a handwritten note by Henri Chauveau, the artist’s grandson: ‘Military sketches by my grandfather Camille Narcisse Chauveau. These drawings were largely produced during his time with the armed forces, whilst on campaign in Algeria and the Crimea; he was accredited to them as a painter, as, at that time, photography was not yet in use, and only drawings could serve as evidence of the events. ’ The first page is adorned with a charming military trophy captioned ‘Military sketches by Camille N Chauveau’.
Included is a silver table medal bearing the effigy of Napoleon III, awarded to Camille Chauveau on the occasion of a painting exhibition in Boulogne-sur-Mer in 1962. In its case. Diameter: 56 mm.
