Description
MERMOZ Jean Autograph manuscript, *L’Écho du Lycée*, [Aurillac] 3 February 1917; 3 pages of a small in-4 double-leaf sheet in violet ink (small tear at the fold). An amusing draft of a school newspaper. Handwritten in violet ink in two columns, it includes a poem entitled ‘Vengeance!’, signed ‘Jehan de Valbery’; an anecdote about a former school teacher, ‘Father Badinet’, signed ‘K. Pouth’; and ‘Impressions of a New Boy on his Arrival at Aurillac Grammar School’, signed ‘K. Kaowelt’. The third page remains blank. On the fourth page are five humorous pencil drawings (one traced in ink) with titles and captions in ink: ‘The Benefits of Anastasie’, ‘Court-martial’, ‘A bloke who doesn’t worry’, The Paper Crisis, Spelling Mistakes; plus a whimsical advertisement for ‘Galloping Ointment […] for the retirement of the Prussian Guard’, signed ‘K. Pouth’. Enclosed is the registration form for the pupil Mermoz on the Honour Roll of the Lycée d’Aurillac, for the months of November–December 1914.
