MERMOZ Jean
L.A.S. ‘Ton Jean’, Prat de Llobrégat, 18 February 1926, to his ‘Beloved Mum’; 2 pages, in-4, on letterhead from the Café Restaurant Jacinto Marti.
‘I have been posted to Casablanca as of today on the Casa–Málaga route; I shall be leaving Barcelona on Monday or Tuesday for Toulouse and from there may be flying a plane to Morocco. I’m pleased with this change in every respect. The assignments are better paid and life is much like it is in France; and besides, I won’t be leaving Spain entirely and I’ll be heading to Dakar from time to time.
Naturally, my plans to move closer home haven’t changed. I’m going to submit my official application to return to the Franco in a few days’ time for April–May, and I’m making another one for Air-Union, which is launching the Paris–Marseille–Genoa–Naples–Athens route. In any case, I shall leave the Maison on good terms, as they have been extremely kind to me, and I shall always be glad to have a way out should the need arise. […]
I am expecting my famous chocolate medal any day now’…
