He has been ‘officially recalled to Toulouse’ and will have to set off ‘15 days after my replacement arrives […] The big boss, Bouilloux-Lafont, is there. I went to fetch him in Rio and brought him back with Challes and Larre Borges, who’d had a crash in Natal whilst travelling from Seville. I’m taking him everywhere and he won’t have any other pilot. So every two or three days I set off for either Chile, Paraguay or Brazil, and have hardly any free time.
Gilberte’s parents insisted that we get engaged before I left, which took place last night. We talked a lot about you… I missed you so much that evening, my dear little Mum. Gilberte has asked me to give you a big, affectionate kiss from her and to ask you to believe that she’s already quite ready to love you. There were about sixty people there. Lots of people here couldn’t believe it… and the newspapers reported the event very kindly, though with some surprise. Bouilloux-Lafont came with all the directors from his group… he didn’t stop dancing until four o’clock in the morning (he’s sixty years old!!!)
