Description
DAURAT, Didier (1891–1969)
Letter, Toulouse, 1 September 1930, to Jean MERMOZ; 1 page, in-4.
Letter from Mermoz following an accident during test flights. [Mermoz, who had married on 23 August, immediately resumed test flights. On 30 August, he was at the controls of the Laté 28-8 prototype; his aeroplane exploded in flight, and Mermoz owed his life solely to the parachute that Daurat had made him put on; but the parachute canopy, torn by debris from the aircraft, accelerated Mermoz’s fall.]
‘Mr Latécoère has decided to double the bonus awarded to you for your two world records’. He sent him the corresponding cheque and conveyed the best wishes of André and Marcel Bouilloux-Lafont: ‘They join their best wishes to those we all extend for your speedy recovery’...
