‘A sublime figure in aviation, of unparalleled moral and professional calibre. Through superhuman efforts, he pioneered transoceanic commercial aviation, making his name a symbol and his career a long series of feats.
Seeing every undertaking through to the end, facing death with serenity, he earned universal admiration for the greatness of his deeds. He was reported missing along with the crew of the ‘Croix du Sud’, of which he was the captain, whilst completing his 24th Atlantic crossing on the postal route he had been the first to establish.
He has entered the annals of legend and ranks among the truest heroes of French aviation.
