Vernet Émile (inspired by) "La mort du Maréchal Poniatowski, en traversant l'Elster, à la bataille de Leipzig", 19 October 1813. Stamped sheet metal with patina. ABE 19.5 x 46.5 cm (small accidents and missing parts)
Poniatowski Joseph Antoine (1763 - 1813) Nephew of the King of Poland, Prince of the Holy Roman Empire, he served in the Austrian army, rising to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. In 1792, he commanded Polish troops in Ukraine. Under the 1st Empire, he rallied to Napoleon I and became Polish Minister of War. He distinguished himself during the 1809 Campaign, in Russia and during the German Campaign in 1813. He was made Marshal of the Empire on 16 October 1813, on the battlefield of Leipzig. Three days later, he drowned crossing the Elster.
