Description
Georges BRAQUE (1882-1963) after Heger de LÖWENFELD (1919-2000), Joaillier-lapidaire, creator of Braque's jewellery. HECATE V" round clip brooch in 750 thousandths granulated gold (technique of gold melted on gold), applied with a Greek profile in lapis lazuli, surrounded by brilliant-cut diamonds set in 850 thousandths platinum, juxtaposed on a slightly reperced chased background. Signed on the back "HECATE V. BIJOUX de G. Braque. HEGER DE LOWENFELD". (slight restoration) Gross weight: 25.9 g. Size: 4.5 x 4.2 cm. Hecate motif, goddess of the moon in Greek mythology, who trained Circe in the great art of the Metamorphoses, based on Braque's 1962 gouache of the same name from the series Les Métamorphoses. This rare piece, Hécate V, the little sister of another brooch, Hécate II, exhibited in 1963 at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and then acquired by the French state in 1993, is the fruit of the collaboration between two great artists who understood each other perfectly in the twilight of Braque's life, and who, through their joint work, reoriented the jewellery world in the 1960s. With its certificate signed by Heger de Löwenfeld, mentioning its acquisition by collectors in 1978.
