Description
NEVERS Set comprising: A plate with a curved rim, featuring a revolutionary polychrome design comprising a central medallion depicting two clasped hands holding a sword topped with a Phrygian cap, surmounting a book bearing the inscription ‘Droits de l’Homme’ (Human Rights) between two palm fronds and garlands on the rim. 18th century (chips and pitting on the rim). Diameter: 22.5 cm. Similar to the example in the Carnavalet Museum, Paris, inv. C541. Plate with a curved rim, featuring a revolutionary polychrome decoration of a trophy comprising a loaf of bread concealing a lictor’s fasces surmounted by a Phrygian cap, a caduceus, a sword and a laurel branch intertwined, and a garland of flowers around a border on the rim. 18th century.
