NEVERS Set comprising: Two plates with a curved rim, featuring a revolutionary polychrome decoration in the centre depicting a peasant on a swing raising the emblems of the Clergy and the Nobility, bearing the inscription ‘nous jouons de maleur / le plus fort l’emporte’ (‘we play the game of misfortune / the strongest wins’) and a frieze around the rim. 18th century (broken into two pieces with chips on the rim). Diameter: 23 cm. A similar example can be found in C. Bonnet, *Les faïences révolutionnaires de la collection Louis Heitschel*, p. 158, no. 298. Two plates with a scalloped rim, featuring a polychrome Revolutionary decoration depicting the Altar of the Fatherland, over which hovers a cupid holding a banner bearing the inscription ‘Long live the nation, the law and the king’, surmounted by the inscription ‘Le Sermant Civique’. 18th century (chips on the rim of one plate have been restored).
