Description
China, 18th century
Porcelain sorbet and saucer with polychrome decoration in famille rose enamels of the Passion of Christ (accidents and restorations).
Diameter: 12 cm
Christ is crucified, the crown of thorns encircling the skull, the inscription "INRI" in the upper part of the cross. On either side stand a man and a woman, probably Mary and John. The inside of the sherbet is painted with three hammers and nails; on the back of the body, a spear, a ladder and torches are gathered together, instruments of Christ's Passion.
