Description
Yema Meangraf, ref. 61006, no. 681097, circa 1975 Steel wristwatch. Tonneau-shaped case, winding crown with screw-down case back. Black dial, applied hour markers, minute track with stylised 1/5-second graduations, date window, signed. Mechanical movement, cal. FE140-1A. Diameter 39 mm Provenance: Original owner. Founded in 1948 in Besançon by the former technical director of LIP, Yema is a cult French watch brand. In its early days, the manufacturer specialised in the production of ‘tool watches’ – timepieces designed for use in extreme conditions – and by the late 1960s had become France’s largest watch manufacturer. Distributed in nearly fifty countries, Yema went on to achieve true international stature. Having made history as “the first French watch worn in space”, on the wrist of astronaut Jean-Loup Chrétien, the brand then went through a long period of dormancy before being revived in 2009. Over the past fifteen years or so, Yema has re-established itself at the forefront of the watch industry thanks to the launch of new collections, whilst simultaneously sparking renewed interest in its vintage models. Launched around 1969, following on from the Navygraf, Flygraf, Rallygraf and Yachtingraf collections, the Meangraf is fitted with a France Ébauches movement. Coming from its original owner, our example presents a fine opportunity for any enthusiast wishing to acquire a vintage watch with character at a still reasonable price. CONDITION REPORT: Movement in working order at the time of writing the catalogue. Scratches and scuffs from normal wear and tear. Case showing visible signs of wear on the back: engraving slightly faded but still legible: ‘Elapsed time opposite the kilometres travelled – Average speed per hour opposite the arrow’. Dated dial, hour markers with reapplied luminescent material. Hands show visible wear. Servicing recommended. Please note that all watches are sold as is. No guarantee is given as to their working condition. Most watches have been opened to identify the type and quality of the movement, including water-resistant models. Buyers are advised to consult a watchmaker to check the watch’s water resistance. Any information provided regarding restoration, damage or the condition of the watch remains subject to the buyer’s own judgement. The absence of any indication of replacement parts, restoration or damage does not in any way imply that an item is free from any existing defects. All items presented may have undergone previous servicing and may contain non-original parts. The dimensions and weight of the items are given as approximate figures.
