Description
LIP Type 14 On-Board Chronograph No. 35560 Circa 1940 On-board watch designed for the Air Force. Round case, notched bezel, numbered and signed. Black dial, Arabic numerals, sub-dial at 6 o’clock, signed. Mechanical movement (requires servicing) Diameter 63 mm Provenance: Original owner. Designed by LIP in Besançon from the late 1920s onwards, the Type 14 was fitted in the cockpits of fighter aircraft such as the Morane-Saulnier MS.406 and the Dewoitine D.520. Enabling pilots to calculate their flight time using an internal hour marker adjustable via the bezel, this watch was mounted directly onto the instrument panel. The time is set and the movement wound using the notched bezel. Bibliography: Marie-Pia Auschitzky Coustans, *Lip, des heures à conter*, 2000, Libris, a similar example reproduced on p. 174. CONDITION REPORT: Please note that this watch is sold as is. The movement is not working. Servicing is required (servicing costs are estimated at between €400 and €500, according to the assessment carried out by Atelier Jacques Bianchi in Marseille, our technical support partner). The fixing plate is missing. Please note that all watches are sold as is. No guarantee is given as to their working condition. Most watches have been opened to identify the type and quality of the movement, including water-resistant models. Buyers are advised to consult a watchmaker to check the watch’s water resistance. Any information provided regarding restoration, damage or the condition of the watch remains subject to the buyer’s own judgement. The absence of any indication of replacement parts, restoration or damage does not in any way imply that an item is free from any existing defects. All items presented may have undergone previous servicing and may contain non-original parts. The dimensions and weight of the items are given as approximate figures.
