Jean BRONZET (? 1810 - ? 1876) Portrait of Marc-Antoine du Cayla de Montblanc wearing a coat with an astrakhan collar (1767 - 1857) Original canvas 65.5 x 54 cm Signed and dated lower right "Bronzet / 1837"; bears the coat of arms of the du Cayla de Montblanc family at upper right Provenance : Château de Ternant Jean Bronzet was a painter of religious compositions and portraits from Marseille, a pupil of Augustin Aubert and director of the Marseille School and Museum from 1810 to 1845. Marc-Antoine du Cayla de Montblanc was born in Saint-Chély, a commune of Montpellier. He was mayor of Aumont-Aubrac in 1792 and commanded the town's national guard. He was made a knight of the Legion of Honour in 1833 and was deputy for Lozère from 1831 to 1834.
