Based on a model by André-Charles Boulle.
Louis XIV style, late 19th century

The attribution of this model to André Charles Boulle (1642-1732) is based on the publication by Jean Mariette of a pair of sconces with great similarities in the work Nouveaux desseins de meubles et ouvrages de bronze et de marqueterie inventés et gravés par André-Charles Boulle. Several examples made around 1710-1720 are now known; one pair is in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, a second pair was sold in Paris on 10 December 1982, lot 108, another pair was sold in Paris, Drouot-Montaigne, on 22 November 1987, lot 220, and a fourth pair was sold in New York, Christie's, on 12 December 2024, lot 9.
