Description
Archery and rope jumping
Tapestry from the Royal Aubusson Manufactory
(Manufacture's initials in the lower right-hand corner of the tapestry: M.R.D.B.) part of the "Amusements champêtres" hanging
Based on designs by Jacques Nicolas Juillard (1719 - 1790)
18th century, circa 1770
252 x 224 cm
Material and condition :
Woven in wool and silk, the colours are still vivid, but there are accidents and old restorations in the silks. The tapestry was probably created without a border in order to be inserted into a woodwork frame. The maker's mark is in the body of the tapestry as it could not have been on the border.
