Description
Gilt bronze and white marble date clock decorated with a Chinese pagoda, the entablature decorated with dragons supported by leafy columns framing a dial with Roman and Arabic numerals indicating the day of the month (one winding hole blocked), decorated with Chinese figures and bells; (accidents and missing parts).
The dial signed Béliard fils in Paris, for François Béliard, watchmaker received master in 1749.

An identical clock illustrated in J.-D. Augarde, Les ouvriers du temps, Geneva, 1996, p. 301, was sold in Paris, Ader Picard Tajan, on 5 December 1989, lot 195. Another clock from the Los Angeles museum (LACMA) was sold in New York at Christie's on 19 May 2004, lot 319, a third clock sold in Paris, Blanchet et Associés, on 14 March 2019, lot 284, another belonged to the Gutfreund collection (Christie's New York, 26-27 June 2021, lot 18), another to the Getty collection (Christie's New York sale, 23 October 2022, lot 521).
