Carl Frederik Emanuel LARSEN (1823–1859) The Entrance to Copenhagen Harbour Canvas mounted on board 18.5 x 31.5 cm Signed and dated lower right: “Emanuel Larsen . 1850”; bears an old sales label on the reverse of the frame, no. 100, stating the title and provenance Provenance: Collection of Consul-General Johan Hansens (according to the label on the reverse of the frame). Emanuel Larsen specialised in seascapes, coastal landscapes and harbour views. Trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1839 under Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg and Frederi Theodor Kloss, he travelled to Iceland and the Faroe Islands in 1845, then to France, England and the Netherlands between 1852 and 1854. The Johan Hansen collection comprised 15 paintings and 8 engravings by the artist, depicting in particular Iceland, Denmark and scenes from the First Schleswig War.
