Description
Émile-Antoine BOURDELLE (1861-1929) Beethoven, Head known as Hébrard, Bronze subject with a dark brown patina signed "Bourdelle sculpteur" and bearing the foundry mark "Cire Perdue AA Hébrard" (on the side of the base); inscription "Moi je suis Bacchus qui pressure pour les hommes, le nectar délicieux Beethoven". Height: 68.8 cm. Designed in 1901; this version was cast in bronze by AA Hébrard. Inside, label "Exposition de Munich, 1913, Monsieur Bourdelle". On the back, plaque of an old provenance: "To Ernest CARBONNE, Directeur de la Scène de l'Opéra Comique with grateful affection. His directors. His friends, and all the staff of the Opéra Comique. 11 November 1920".
