Description
A rectangular travel chest doubling as a writing desk, made of stained walnut and decorated with bone inlays featuring circular and star-shaped geometric motifs. The top is adorned with a chequerboard pattern in the centre. The lid opens to reveal a large compartment surrounded by four small drawers and three compartments. Removable wrought-iron handles on the sides.
Venice, 16th century.
Brand mark of a ‘P’ within a fruit (probably a collector’s mark).

(Replaced brass hinges, locks and brackets; partially replaced base; repairs and alterations. Replaced blackened wooden framing moulding. The interior is lined with crimson velvet from a later period)
