A small, narrow chest of drawers in rosewood veneer set within frames of violetwood arranged in a scroll pattern, featuring two drawers in two rows separated by a crossbar. Rounded side panels resting on curved legs. Top in Campan marble with a ‘beak of corbin’ profile. Stamped ‘J. TUART’ and bearing the hallmark of the Carpenters’ and Cabinetmakers’ Guild. Louis XV period. Appliqué gilded bronze ornamentation. 83 × 52 × 36 cm. (Some lifting of the veneer, minor veneer chips and signs of wear; the ornamental motif on the apron is missing) Jean-Baptiste I Tuart was admitted as a master cabinetmaker in Paris on 1 February 1741.
