Description
DURAND (Guillaume). [Prima (-quarta) pars Speculi Guillelmi Duranti, cum additionibus Joan. Andree et Baldi]. Venice, undated [circa 1501]. Large folio, brown morocco with reptile skin decoration (modern binding). 188 folios in 24 quires signed: S-T 6, V-Z 8, AA-SS 8. The third and fourth parts alone comprise folios [341] to 528: ‘Tertia & Quarta pars Speculi Gulelmi duranti cum additionibus Ioannis Andree & Baldi […]’. The third part occupies folios 341 to 360, the fourth folios 361v to 528. Guillaume Durand (circa 1230–1296), Bishop of Mende, is known as the “Speculator” after his work the Speculum judiciale (Mirror of Law), which inspired, among others, Giovanni d’Andrea and Baldus. Water stains throughout the volume; damage with occasional losses, notably on ff. 341 to 347 and 518 to 528v.
