HEINE (Heinrich). *Buch der Lieder*. Hamburg: Hoffmann und Campe, 1827. 12mo, brown half-basane with corner pieces, plain spine with decorative lettering (contemporary German binding). [I (Half-title)] f. + 372 pp. FIRST EDITION of the first collection of Romantic poems that brought fame to Heine (1797–1856). On the reverse of the title page: ‘Druck und Papier der Gampeschen Offizin in Nürnberg’. A complete copy, including the half-title page (which is often missing) and the dedication pages to Salomon Heine (p. 107), Friedericke Varnhagen von Ense (p. 175) and Friedrich Merkel (p. 307), which were removed in subsequent editions; but without the publisher’s advertisement leaflet that should appear at the end.
