Description
FRANCIS GREGG, London TABLE CLOCK Made of ebony and finely chased gilt bronze; the case is decorated with cherubs and mythological figures. The dial is signed ‘FranGregg Rufsell Street Coven Garden’, and the movement is signed on the back. The key for opening the dial and the winding key are missing. England, circa 1705. H.: 49 cm 26.5 x 17 cm (Damage, movement non-functional) Note: Francis Gregg, born in 1677, was apprenticed to John Clowes from 1691 to 1698. He set up shop in London on Russell Street in 1711, then in St James’s from 1714 to 1729. We present a fine example characteristic of his work during the reign of Anne, Queen of Great Britain.
