cole SUISSE circa 1820 Portrait of Charles Rieu (1792-1821), Pastor Genve Black stone and white highlights on beige paper 19.5 x 17 cm Annotations on verso with model's identity Charles Rieu, from a family of French Protestants who came to Geneva after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes, was the city's last French-speaking pastor. His brother Jean-Louis Rieu (1788-1868) was Syndic of the Guard of Geneva between 1830 and 1832, then several times Syndic of Geneva in the 1830s.
