A g centaur is paired with a young centaur, together they form the famous Furietti Centaurs. These monumental ancient marbles were discovered during excavations at Villa Adriana in 1736 by Giuseppe Alessandro Furietti, who kept them in his private collection in the Palazzo di Montecitorio. They were later acquired by Pope Clement XIII, who installed them in the Capitoline Museum. The finest bronze reproductions of this model were cast by Righetti and Zoffoli and were highly prized by 18th-century collectors. Other editions were produced throughout the 19th century.
