Chased, gilded or patinated bronze chimneypiece;the cover decorated with an allegory of Spring in the form of a young woman picking flowers which she arranges in the folds of her tunic;the rocaille base garlanded with flowers and foliage crosses is centred by the dial signed Ž L. Marchand Paris rue Richelieu 67 Ż indicating the hours in Roman numerals and the minutes in increments of five in Arabic numerals;the group signed Ž L. Marchand Ż. It is flanked by two large candlesticks in the form of a pair of putti holding on their heads baskets laden with flowers and fruit from which the candlesticks emerge.
