Description
Kurdish Senneh carpet (cotton warp and weft, wool pile), North-West Persia.
Circa 1950–1960.
(Slight wear and fraying.)
Length: 158 cm; Width: 120 cm.
This carpet features a double hexagon in ivory and dusky pink, decorated with the Herati motif. This motif consists of a rhombus formed of curved stems, enclosing a rosette and surmounted by a palmette at each vertex, repeated endlessly, with four sickle-shaped leaves side by side in each instance. This design adorned Herat carpets (from which it takes its name). The entire composition, set against a navy blue background, features the same motif. A narrow old rose border with a garland of geometric motifs is framed by numerous counter-borders.
