Description
NATHAN ASCHER Simone –1924–2012.
‘The Fall of the Angels’. A major porcelain sculpture modelled by the artist and fired in the kilns of Pierre ARQUIE in 1998. A parabolic 3D vision of the link between the celestial world and the world of mortals, represented by winged angels who lose their wings as they fall and are transformed into mortals upon touching the ground, where they are met by a figure without arms. The light blue colour of the sky at the start darkens as the descent towards earth progresses. The work as a whole invites reflection.
Comprising 8 panels and a figure attached to the base of the sculpture.
Sculpture: Height 111 cm. Width 28 cm. Figure: Height 21.5 cm. Base width 28 cm.
This sculpture, also cast in bronze, bears witness to the importance the artist attaches to this vision.
