Lady Honoria Louisa CADOGAN (1813–1904). ‘His Holiness Gregory XVI blessing the candles – Candlemas Day’, Rome, 1844. Watercolour, signed, inscribed with location and dated on the mount. 14 x 20 cm. Provenance: estate of Louis-Maxime ANSALONI, born in Lons-le-Saunier (Jura) on 28 February 1882 and who died on 22 May 1973 (architect and student at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts), son of Amilcar Jean Antoine ANSALONI, a state railway engineer and former chief engineer at the design office of Gustave Eiffel & Cie, and brother of Edouard Gaëtan Charles ANSALONI (painter, born in 1878), himself a pupil of Jean-Léon Gérôme, Benjamin Constant and Jean-Paul Laurens.
