This group, based on a work by Colmar-born sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi illustrating a German fable, is made from a rare and interesting material: stearic plaster, a process that consists of immersing a plaster sculpture in a stearin bath, giving the object great strength and an appearance that resembles the colour and polish of marble.
Related work: Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi (1834 - 1904), The Seven Swabians, bronze, 1855, Colmar, Musée Bartholdi.
