Height : 59 cm Width : 77 cm - Small missing parts Several representations by Francken are known of this subject taken from the Gospel according to Saint Luke (Chapter XVI, verses 19 to 31), including one in the Fine Arts Museum in Yekaterinburg, Russia, and others in private collections. This parable, told by Jesus, illustrates the parallel lives of the rich man and poor Lazarus, emphasising the importance of charity. underlining the importance of charity and compassion towards those in greatest need: "There was a rich man who dressed himself in purple and fine linen and spent himself lavishly every day.
