Description
Louis XVI period cylinder desk, in mahogany or burled walnut veneer, with a rectangular structure resting on four tapered and fluted legs, joined by a low belt, the rounded cylinder slides to reveal the interior compartmentalisation of the desk, the front is organised into three registers:
at the top, under the cylinder: three frieze drawers - two smaller ones framing a wider central drawer - with gilded bronze escutcheons.
At the bottom: two side pedestals, each with two drawers one above the other, flanking a central recessed space for the knees.
The top is adorned with an ormolu openwork gallery. The bronzes - lock escutcheons, handles, sabots, gallery - are chased and gilded. Height: 116 cm - length: 126 cm - depth: 65 cm (Wear, key missing, one drawer locked)
