Description
MANUFACTURE DE SÈVRES. A pair of porcelain vases on pedestals with a blue and gold base imitating lapis lazuli. They have ring-shaped handles and their lids are decorated with ball-shaped handles. Decorated with a cartouche surrounded by gold scrolls bearing the inscription in gilt letters "EXPOSITION DES BEAUX-ARTS JACQUEMART Membre du Jury, Section de Gravure, 1873". Marked: "S. 73", in green and "RF Doré à Sèvres 73" in red. Engraved 73. 19th century, year 1873 H. 39 cm AJ Chips and a glued chip on one lid. Jules-Ferdinand Jacquemart (1837-1880) was a watercolourist, illustrator and engraver best known for his etchings. In 1873, he was present in Vienna as an international member of the jury for the Universal Exhibition. A knight of the Order of Franz Joseph, he became a correspondent of the Vienna Academy in France: his reputation was international. This type of honorary vase was presented to members of the jury in recognition of their role.
