Sisowath Monivong was the fourteenth son of King Sisowath I. He was born in Phnom Penh. He was born in Phnom Penh, which had become the new capital. In 1904, his father Prince Sisowath acceded to the throne. In 1906, Monivong accompanied his father to France, where he received military training at Saint-Maixent.
