Description
A stoneware jar and vase from one or more wrecks.
-A Chinese (Tang dynasty) globular jar with a round lip and four small handles on the shoulder, the body pale buff with a cover that was probably originally ivory (here eaten away by salt and now matt) leaving the foot bare.
-Korean vase in grey sandstone with grey-black slip (iron oxide), the body showing irregular horizontal ribs. Probably a firing accident resulting in a deformed shoulder and lips.
China and Korea, circa 7th/9th century
H. 16.7 cm and 17.5 cm LM
Traces of exposure to water: dull surface attacked by salt, concretions, etc.
