Lot no. 321
Raoul DUFY (1877-1953) : Autograph letter signed consisting of three sheets, two of which are recto-verso, giving in a very kind tone indications concerning the execution of various tapestries based on his cartoons such as the Vases rouges. He was apparently disappointed by the second state. He would like Amphitrite to be brought to him in Perpignan. He proposed a small ink sketch at the end of the letter to specify a bridge motif for a tapestry in progress. There are also considerations of an accounting and organisational nature within the manufacture, followed by allusions to Raoul Dufy's health.
Dated and located Domaine de Rozès, 19 September 1947.
Sketch below the signature.
(Traces of water have erased some of the words).
Provenance: this letter was addressed to Monsieur Reverd, the chief colourist at Les Gobelins. It has remained in the family ever since.
