decorated with palmettes, scrolled armrests,
inlaid with amaranth on a sycamore background.
Two armchairs with the ink stencil mark of LEMARCHAND.

Louis-Edouard LEMARCHAND (1795-1872).
Lemarchand moved to 17, rue des Tournelles in Paris in 1828 and worked there until 1852, when he sold his workshops to his partner.
He became famous for making Napoleon's coffin to bring back the ashes of the prisoner of St Helena, which he had been commissioned to make in 1840 by the July government, for which he was the supplier.
